There has been many arguments over the safety of hair dyes and some manufacturers have voluntarily stopped using them in their products. The coal tar dyes in hair coloring products can caused allergic reactions in some people. Temporary and semi-permanent hair dyes often contain azo dyes or coal tar dyes which has been said to cause cancer in some laboratory animals and allergic reactions in some individuals.
Some manufacturers successfully lobbied for an exemption for their products by putting a warning label to inform the people that the product can cause allergic reactions to some people.
